Did you know there’s a book called Walking In The Dust of Rabbi Jesus by Lois Tverberg? ☺️

I do not know that book. I will check it out, for sure. I lead a class in the church that was attempting to unpack and better understand discipleship. So, we dug into Jesus as 1st century rabbi and how that might add depth to what it meant to be a disciple then, and now. That is where my ideas started forming.

Wow that’s great! Ray Vander Laan also has some great teachings and cultural clues into the first century called In The Dust of the Rabbi. They’re a little older but so interesting!

Great insights Gene.

I really started struggling with that false dichotomy between Savior and teacher (Rabbi) in seminary. I started asking the question "What if Jesus meant everything he said?" and the church people I grew up accused me of preaching "works righteous."

To this day I still don’t understand why someone would want a "Lord and Savior" whose teachings don't seem important or relevant enough for them to follow.

As Jesus said, "Many will say to me, 'Lord, Lord'...

Thanks for sharing.

I share your confusion about loving a savior but being apathetic to what the savior thought and taught.
