I’m wondering if you could define “spin”? I’ve used that term much in describing how life can get…’being drug from pillar to post’ as my friend says of me at times….
Thank you for sharing this insight. It puts words to much of what I see and feel. Hence, God brought L’Abri into my life! The shelter. A place to be. To breathe. To gain clarity of sight. To have life slow down. To know love. To experience what is real. To ask questions. To grapple with Truth. True Truth as Francis Schaeffer put it. So beautiful! And to hear this grapple truly brings joy to my heart. May Truth Himself fill us in every way!! May we grow to walk in ‘what is real!’ 1 Peter 1:18,19. Through Christ we have been rescued from the empty way of life handed down to us!!! Hooray!!! Thank You Jesus! 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽May we allow ourselves to be transformed by the renewing of our minds with what is real brought to us by the Spirit of Truth!
Hi, Debbie. I always love your comments and questions! I am using “spin” here to refer to the way that issues or ideas get manipulated to make us think or feel a certain way about what is happening. Certain parts of an issue might be overplayed or oversold to make us feel favorably about something while downplaying or underwhelming contrary points of view.
Exactly. You have got what spin is when it is trying to convince us something is real that isn’t true Truth. God’s adversary excels at this. The Genesis 3 story doesn’t try to convince our spiritual ancestors there is no such thing as God. The Adversary just manipulates what is real: “Did God really say that?” And they fell for the spin.
I loved Rich Mullins. At one of churches I pastored, he came often to late-night youth gatherings and played his songs. I remember sitting in back of room listening and watching while he sat at grand piano playing and singing and middle school (including my son) and high school students standing around him. Such a cool moment.
Wow. That’s really good. I feel it can play out in other ways also… oftentimes, being divorced in 2005 with ten children between 7-20 at home, life can get so hurried…so harried. . I was often in survival mode rather than slowing to feel God’s presence and care or to have depth of relationship with Him or my children. It was like just trying to meet the current needs such as meals, school, laundry, finances, transportation to activities, settling crises, etc. I actually think it’s what I knew growing up…treading water rather than swimming with direction and purpose….calling it life…the way life is…but it wasn’t ’that Which is real’. A delusion. Less than God intended. But He has died to give us more! To rescue us from the spin!!!
You have great heart for Jesus, Debbie. I hear your frustration that you didn’t catch this sooner. Can I give you permission to do 2 things? 1) be gentle with the woman and mom who had 10 children to raise and provide for following a divorce, and 2) give yourself some moments of joy and exhilaration that you now are seeing this and aligning your life more and more with true Truth. There might be some life-giving practices to use with both of these. First, to give yourself the gift of gentle and loving forgiveness, go over some moments where you see you were just surviving and getting by. Almost as if in a mirror, look at that women/mom and whisper, “I forgive you.” “You are loved.” And for the older woman who sees more now, name some things you now know and then, as if looking God in the eye, whisper, “Thank you.”

Oh… so …Any form of an allurement away from what is real or true? From The True Truth?

😭🙏🏽❤️
Thank you for this.
I think both practices will solidify the beautiful work of grace and transformation God has been doing in your heart and life.
