Eucharist-O: Giving Thanks to God for Giants

I'm thankful for Elton Trueblood

The invitation given to you by the Eucharist-O today is to give thanks for the men and women who went before you on the way to a deeper life with God and then helped you find and navigate the way yourself.

Today, I’m giving thanks for Elton Trueblood. Head over to Compass, my spiritual formation newsletter on Substack to read how my journey with this giant. Look for the post titled, “Eucharist-O: Giving Thanks to God for Giants.”

I am the least of the people Elton invested mind, heart, soul, time, and relationship in the hope that one day, we might become large. Here is a delightful story of another in whom Trueblood invested his life.

As you read my story, and perhaps the embedded story, the question is this: who are you giving thanks to God for the way that person invested his or her life in you so you could find the way to a deeper life with Jesus?

The Eucharist-O for Friday, November 22, 2024

First: A Centering Word

  • What to do: read Newton’s words three or four times. Pause and breath between each reading. Who has helped you see further? Who has helped you find the way to a deeper life with God? What did they do that helped you?

Next: A Centering Word from Scripture

  • What to do: Read the scripture words three or four times. Pay attention to what is stirring inside of you. What are you seeing? What are you believing? What are you doubting? What are you feeling? What questions are being raised?

Next: Be Still

  • What to do: Before returning to your full day, sit in stillness for a few moments. How are you being drawn to give thanks to God for who God is in His essence? As you join Moses in worshiping God, what act of worship are you offering to God?

Finally, take your thankfulness with you into your world today.
