Eucharist-O is a playful term for a reflective practice aimed at helping us gaze at Jesus amid all the sights and sounds of daily life that pull our gaze elsewhere. While the name is light and fun, the practice is of utmost importance for our spiritual health. Throughout my own journey with Eucharist-O, I have gained a fresh perspective on how the simple act of giving thanks can take on profound significance when paired with solitude.
You can read more about solitude’s unique ability to create a life-giving desert for our souls by heading over to my Substack newsletter, Compass. Look for the post with the same name as The Trailhead podcast: Eucharist-O: Giving Thanks to God for the Desert of Solitude.
The Eucharist-O for Thursday, November 21, 2024
First: A Centering Word from Henri Nouwen
What to do: read Henri Nouwen’s words three or four times. Pause and breathe between each reading. Pay attention to where you are being drawn as you read.
Next: A Centering Word from Scripture
What to do: Read the scripture words three or four times. Pay attention to what is stirring inside of you. What are you seeing? What are you believing? What are you doubting? What are you feeling? What questions are being raised?
Next: Be Still
What to do: Before returning to your full day, sit in stillness for a few moments. Give yourself enough time to start a conversation with God who has used the words of a spiritual master — Henri Nouwen — and His own words from Psalm 27 — to capture your attention. As you go about your day, expect God to join the conversation.
