Eucharist-O
Compass is a Christian Spiritual Formation newsletter. Accordingly, you find resources — history, theology, scripture, practices, encouragement, and community — to help you find the path that leads to a richer, more transformative life with Jesus. Like a long pilgrimage, the way leads stage-by-stage through spiritual growth and genuine renovation of our heart — our spiritual core — after our sins are forgiven and our soul is cleansed.
While the focus is often post-forgiveness, spiritual formation is part of the salvation work God is doing to restore us — and everything —back to God’s original creation. Salvation begins with forgiveness of sins and continues with renovation of our hearts. Each are distinct acts of salvation but both are essential if you want the fullest work of salvation.
That is why the Eucharist-O for today, November 18, 2024, is centered around giving thanks for mercy of God best demonstrated by Jesus’ willing sacrifice for us. Be sure not to slip past this sacrifice without taking it in — this sacrifice is a death! This sacrifice costs Jesus everything. It is not glib to say His worst day is our best day. Our sins are forgiven in this act of self-sacrifice if we choose to trust that in Jesus’ birth, life, death, and resurrection God is at work restoring us back to Himself.
So, today, the contemplative practice that I playfully call Eucharist-O has a simple rhythm:
A centering word borrowed from a Matt Redman song, “Once Again.”
A centering word from scripture.
An invitation to enjoy the lyrics of “Once Again.”
A prompt to be still for a few minutes to take in all your soul is processing at a deep level.
